Date:

Google Keyword Planner is a free tool that helps you find the best keywords for your blog. Here’s a step-by-step handbook on how to use it virtually.

Step 1: Access Google Keyword Planner

  1. Head to Google Ads and mark in with your Google account.
  2. Click on “Tools and Settings” (top-right corner).
  3. Under “Planning,” select “Keyword Planner.”
  4. You’ll see two options:
    • “Discover new keywords” – Find new keyword ideas.
    • “Get search volume and forecasts” – Research existing keywords.

Step 2: Find Keyword Ideas

  1. Click on “Discover new keywords.”
  2. Enter a topic or seed keyword (e.g., “best SEO tips” or “how to start a blog”).
  3. Select your target country and language.
  4. Click “Get Results.”
  5. Google will show keyword suggestions along with:
    • Average monthly searches (how many people search for it).
    • Competition level (Low, Medium, High).
    • Cost-per-click (CPC) (useful if you plan to run ads).

Step 3: Choose the Right Keywords

💡 What to Look For:
Long-Tail Keywords – Phrases with 3-5 words (e.g., “best SEO tips for beginners”).
Low Competition Keywords – Easier to rank for in search results.
Good Search Volume – Aim for at least 1,000-10,000 searches per month.

Example:

SEO tips for beginners1,000 – 10,000Low
How to improve website SEO500 – 5,000Medium

For a new blog, focus on low-competition keywords with a moderate search volume.

Step 4: Export & Analyze Keywords

  1. Click “Download Keyword Ideas” (top-right) for a CSV file.
  2. Open it in Excel or Google Sheets.
  3. Pick 20-30 good keywords that match your blog niche.

Step 5: Use Keywords in Your Blog

✅ Use the main keyword in your title, URL, and headings.
✅ Naturally include related keywords in the article.
✅ Optimize meta descriptions and image alt text with keywords.
✅ Write long-form, valuable content around your chosen keywords.

Bonus: Find Competitor Keywords

You can also use Ubersuggest or Ahrefs Free Keyword Tool to check what keywords competitors rank for!
